Pulmonology

Pulmonology is the study of diseases and disorders that affect the respiratory system, such as asthma, emphysema and sleep apnea. Our pulmonologist, Dr. Stephan Alkins, is also certified in the fields of critical care and sleep medicine.

IACNY also offers the convenience of having an on-site pulmonary function lab. Our technologist has 25 years of experience in the field of respiratory care. He is licensed and registered at the state and national levels and has obtained certification in pulmonary function testing. Tests performed in the lab include spirometry, diffusion testing, and methacholine challenges.

For those with obstructive sleep apnea, we now also have a full service CPAP department. We will set up, fit and train you on how to correctly use your CPAP machine. Our respiratory therapist will calibrate and set your CPAP to the proper pressure, and we will also keep in touch when you need CPAP supplies.
